An initiative of Mar Thoma Syrian Church Kalyan West managed by Easow Mar Timotheos Memorial Welfare Centre.
The Easow Mar Timotheos Memorial Welfare Centre, Kalyan
Mar Thoma Syrian Church,
Kalyan (West)
The School was started by the Mar Thoma Syrian Church, Kalyan in August 1992 as a part of its Social Welfare Scheme. At present the affairs of the School are managed by an independent registered Trust - Easow Mar Timotheos Memorial Welfare Centre, Kalyan registered under Societies Act MH/695 and Public trust Act F-7365/TNA. The School is also registered with the Social Service Department of the Govt of Maharashtra vide R. C. I. Registration No. 938 dated 19.9.2005.
The School caters to the educational needs, development, and rehabilitation of differently-abled children from all communities living in and around Kalyan. Starting with only 4 children in 1992, the school now has more than 60 students. They are accommodated in our new school building, which was constructed at Goveli-Titwala on a plot leased by the parent Church. Previously, the school functioned at the Mar Thoma Centre, Karnik Road, Kalyan (West). The majority of the children are from poor families who cannot afford fees or transport charges. Currently, the cost of running the school is met through donations from church members and well-wishers.
The School is managed by an independent committee consisting of eminent personalities and experienced teachers along with the active support of the parent church.
Regular academic training is followed as per the prescribed syllabus. The School follows three C's concept, based on basic shapes and colours to attain Comprehension, Competency and Creativity. Three C's concept has been most effective in bettering their quality of life and help them to stand on their own and acquire independent means of livelihood.
The School offers vocational training in candle-making, agarbatti-making, envelope-making, screen printing, card painting, and more. Extracurricular activities such as games and sports, training for the Special Olympics, yoga, picnics, drawing competitions, dancing, singing, and more are also offered.
Our future plan focuses on a more meaningful and deeper involvement in the lives of differently-abled children, enabling them to achieve maximum possible independence. To address the high demand for admission and overcome the school's current limitations in space and infrastructure, we are now aiming to commence the second phase of development. This phase will include the following infrastructural improvements:
